September 6th – Kensington Labor Day Parade

Posted on Sep 1 2010 - 9:23pm

This Monday (September 6th) we will be attending the annual Kensington Labor Day parade.   Marching in the parade is a highlight for many of our Cub Scouts.  We typically have most of the Pack marching, so don’t miss out on this great event.  Scouts march with their Dens and everyone gets a chance to carry one of the flags and ride one of our cubmobiles!  Come in your full Class A uniform (last year's hat and scarf are fine) and remember to look your best!

The official line-up time for the parade is 9:00 am, but since the parade begins at 10:00 am, please plan on arriving at around 9:30 am.  We are listed as "Cub Scout Pack #478" and will be lining up as the 5th unit on Oberon St, close to intersection with Wheatley St.  The parade organizers are not providing any free meals this year (due to budget cuts), but there will be complimentary cold drinks at the end of the parade route.

Pack Meeting: Join Scouting Night

Posted on Sep 1 2010 - 9:19pm

When: Tuesday September 21st at 7:00 pm
Where: Oakland Terrace Elementary School, Multipurpose Room

Believe it or not, our first Pack meeting of the year is just around the corner! The theme of the Pack Meeting will be Join Scouting Night and will be held on Tuesday, Sept 21st at 7:00 pm at Oakland Terrace Elementary School - Multipurpose Room. The highlight of the evening will be the Top Reasons to Join Scouting, which will showcase all the things we have done as a Pack over the past year. Please bring along anyone you know that is interested in Scouting!

This will be followed by our annual Join Scouting Night, which is your opportunity to sign up for the next year of scouting. If you are new to Scouting, please bring your registration form, if you have one, or pick one up from the registration table. Each Cub Scout joining for the year should also bring a check for $70, which covers a full year of Scouting (please make check payable to “Pack 478”) – returning scouts only need to drop off their dues. The dues cover a year’s subscription to Boys Life, a Pinewood derby car, local district fees and general program costs for Pack 478, including such things as Leader training and supplies.

We will also have a sign-up for our Fall Campout, which is Oct 16-17 this year. You will hear more about the campout at the Pack Meeting! The tentative camping fees are $12.50 for half a campsite (up to 3 people) and $25 for a full campsite (4-6 people). All fees are due by 10/8. Sign up early to make sure you get a site - we will be booking a total of 25 full sites and based on prior sign ups we can probably fit 40-45 families (some with 3 or less and some with 4-6).
